Our Growing Region

The Monterey County growing region begins near the Monterey Bay to the north and stretches down through the 90-mile long Salinas Valley. The indelible influence of the ocean and the plunging submarine canyon that lies two miles below the bay’s surface results in cool coastal conditions throughout the region. Morning fog often lingers until mid-day in the valley, unfolding into warm, sunshine-filled days during the summer months. With a range of microclimates along the length of the valley, we grow each variety in the location that is most suitable for that grape and allows it to reach its full flavor potential.
